Target Audience: Physicians who care for patients in pain in the inpatient or outpatient setting

Identified Need: Caring for pain patients, especially those with chronic pain, can be frustrating and exhausting for physicians. Opiates are helpful but imperfect and interpersonal interactions with patients in pain can be challenging.

Learning Objectives:
Attendees will be able to:
– Design an integrative treatment plan for patients in pain
– Describe central sensitization and neuroplasticity and how they relate to pain management
– Teach two mind-body interventions to patients in pain
– Understand the interaction between mood and pain
– State three evidence-supported complementary modalities that can be used to manage pain
