Lecture Details
Target Audience:
This is a talk aimed at residents, medical and pre-med students, as well as early career physicians who want to learn to cultivate a modality (reflective writing) that is accessible, portable, and powerful which they can integrate perpetually, and that is economical and has proven benefits in the mitigation of burnout and improvement of well-being.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this workshop, participants will understand the science behind how writing can:
1. Bring a sense of agency to our fast-paced lives by helping us control our own narratives.
2. Mitigate stress by providing a safe place for expression of thoughts and feelings, while contributing to our inner growth by identifying personal values and strengths born of that stress.
3. Cultivate “compassionate solidarity” with our patients when we write in community, strengthening the very relationships that will combat the cynicism at the root of burnout.
4. Through gratitude, help us locate the joy in our job and the meaning in our lives.
5. Build self-confidence by fostering and relying on our own inner wisdom.
6. Prioritize creativity in our lives for improved well-being.
