Target Audience: physicians forming, or already owners of, medical groups of more than two or three owners.

For any medical group of more than a handful of members, its governance structure constitutes, by analogy to a living organism, its nervous system. It’s both the operating system for the group and its means of interfacing with the outside world.

An medical group’s long-term ability to thrive, even survive, hinges on its adopting and implementing effective governance, including, for a group of any significant size, a robust succession plan to train and promote new leaders.

This presentation will describe various forms of governance structures, highlighting both essential attributes and unfortunate pitfalls.

It will introduce important concepts and practical steps to take in designing and implementing succession plans, from the development of future leaders to the handoff of responsibilities.

OBJECTIVES:
