Daniel B. Bruzzini, MD MBA CPE

Dan was the National Medical Director for Centene’s Neonatal Center of Excellence, responsible for directing and coordinating maternal and neonatal health programs to help women be healthy, have healthy pregnancies, and enjoy their healthy babies. He is now the CEO of Prochorus Advising LLC helping managed care/businesses, and policy makers/advocates develop and implement programs and products to improve the health of pregnant women and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) babies. He also serves on the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee for RxAdvance, a full-service pharmacy benefit manager. He is also a full-time clinical Neonatologist for a multi-state private practice group. He travels to Illinois, Indiana, Arkansas, Pennsylvania, Iowa, and Texas to help families care for their NICU babies. Dan grew up in Northbrook, Illinois, and went to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He then attended the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), the military medical school in Bethesda, Maryland. This prepared him well for his first assignment as a flight surgeon for fighter pilots with combat tours in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Oman. Afterwards, he returned to the academic world, completing his pediatric residency at Wright-Patterson AFB/Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. Throughout his 25-year military career, Dan participated in humanitarian missions in Haiti, Oman, and Indonesia, caring for children and training local healthcare providers in obstetrical, pediatric, and neonatal care. After a later humanitarian OB/pediatric tour in Afghanistan, he developed a pediatric trauma/critical care training program in collaboration with the Society of Critical Care Medicine, making the US military the first military in the world with a formal training program to prepare its doctors, nurses, and medics for the critical care needs of children affected by natural disasters, humanitarian crises, and war. Dan honorably served in the Air Force for 25 years, retiring at the rank of Colonel. Upon leaving the service, he earned his MBA, became a Certified Physician Executive, and joined a multi-state, private practice Neonatology group. He served as their medical director and executive director helping it expand to 9 states with 20 Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs). Before serving as Centene’s Neonatal Center of Excellence, Dan worked as a Medical Director at Centene’s local Medicaid health plan in Missouri (Home State Health). While at Home State, he broke down internal and external silos to coordinate care for NICU families and their babies in partnership with community leaders, local organizations, physicians, and hospitals. Dan lives in Saint Louis with his wife, a university professor in Anatomy and Cell Biology. They have two adult children and a German Shepard. Dan enjoys Shakespearean theatre, studying for his Master’s in political Science with public policy emphasis at Liberty University, American history, and beekeeping.
