Lecture Details
There is a formula for writing fiction, and you do not need to get an additional college degree to learn it.
This talk is for writers and would-be writers of fiction, who want to learn the elements of the story arc and how to use them to satisfy your readers. While many of us intuit what a story needs to be successful, keeping these simple but essential points in mind can help you develop your characters, create effective twists and turns in your plot--in the right places, and drive your tale forward to a stunning climax and conclusion.
We will touch briefly on the different types of arcs: the three-act, the five-act, the hero's journey, and the snowflake (yes, really), although they are all very similar. You will learn how a character arc is similar to a story arc but also different. If there is time, open to discussion about POV and themes.
